• Have you tried diets over and over, to have them work for awhile…and then gain the weight back?
• Do you find yourself eating when you know you aren’t hungry, and can’t figure out WHY?
• Does it seem like every time you make some progress, you end up sliding back to where you began, or worse?
Hi, I’m Cindy Locher, and in 1991-1992, I personally went from 175 pounds to 122 pounds, using the power of hypnosis. I KNOW that hypnosis works for weight loss, because I’ve used it. I will never forget the look on my co-workers faces the first time I did not partake in the traditional Friday ice cream sundae with all the toppings event (yes, they did this EVERY FRIDAY….that’s just crazy!). They were shocked at the change in my behavior, and some of them were resistant to MY change (maybe you’ve experienced this too). But finally, when they saw me losing weight, they were encouraging.
My story? I was a thin, 120 pound, 21 year old when I married in 1987, but quickly was a depressed, very heavy, unhappy young woman, as I realized I was married to an alcoholic. Eating was my solace, and a way of having something that I was in control over, even though ironically I was out of control. The weight came on so fast! If you can relate, you KNOW what I mean. I was angry at myself, but not sure what to do. My Dad created the hypnosis tape that changed my life. Saved my life, really. Because not only did it change my eating and exercise behaviors, it gave me back my self esteem, and I was able to end that relationship and move on to a healthy, happy life.
I lost the weight but most importantly I changed the role of food in my life. You can too!

How Does Hypnosis Work for Weight Loss?
The work we do is a three-pronged approach to weight loss.
Some of the work is at the conscious level, because you need to be in agreement between your conscious and subconscious minds as to what and how you want to change. Cindy is a Certified Nutrition Coach and has studied nutrition for over 3 decades, and continues to do so. She will help you to see the best opportunities for changing your eating habits and recommend specific foods and supplements to increase your metabolism and your energy.
Second — Hypnosis for Behavioral Change
Milton Erickson, the Father of Modern Hypnotherapy, said that all problems are a result of a mind being “out of rapport with itself.” Once you understand and most importantly, agree and feel good about the changes you’re deciding to make in order to achieve your goals, hypnotherapy is used to bring your subconscious mind into agreement with those goals. There are a number of techniques that are highly effective in erasing your old “mental programming” and installing and reinforcing the programming (thoughts, attitudes and beliefs) that you desire. Cindy works individually with each and every client, and has over 6,000 hours of client experience, and she will choose the right technique for you in each session to create change rapidly.
Many studies have shown the beneficial effect of hypnosis on weight loss; you can review some of the studies here. Or just look at our past clients like Sandy–down 35 pounds already and well on her way to her goal! Congratulations Sandy!
Yes, we have clients who have lost 30, 40, even 70 plus pounds, and we have successful clients who are willing to talk to you as you decide on hypnosis for weight loss!
Third — The Effortless Benefits of Hypnosis
In and of itself, without suggestion, the state of hypnosis has specific properties that are beneficial to weight loss. Hypnosis has been shown in peer reviewed scientific studies to:
Reduce cortisol levels.
Cortisol is the hormone that keeps your body storing fat. A reduction in cortisol is accompanied by a concommitant increase in DHEA, a hormone that does many things, including help build muscle, strength and stamina and help to strengthen the thyroid, your master metabolism gland. Hypnosis has a healing and moderating effect on the hormones (the endocrine system) because hypnosis puts you in a healing state called homeostasis, where your body has a chance to repair and recover. Overall, this effect of hypnosis helps to normalize your hormones and naturally optimize your metabolism through the improved actions of your adrenal glands and thyroid. Hypnosis has been shown to reduce serum cortisol levels in studies (Sachar, Cobb & Shor).
Reduce anxiety, naturally.
Many people eat because of anxiety, whether they are aware of it or not. Hypnosis has been proven time and again to reduce anxious feelings naturally, leaving you feeling more in control–and more in control of your eating habits.
Increase serotonin, dopamine, GABA and other beneficial body chemistry.
Serotonin and dopamine are chemicals that help you have a sense of wellbeing. GABA is important is stopping thoughts. So if you have “monkey mind” or a mental chatterbox, you’ll find yourself feeling more clear and quiet minded with hypnosis, once again leaving you feeling in control of your emotions and more resilient, which leaves you with more mental energy to make the changes you want to make. You know how you feel more in control in the morning and early afternoon, and your “willpower” starts to fall apart mid-afternoon and evening? This aspect of hypnosis helps moderate that. Imagine feeling in control all day long.
Hypnosis is well known for its beneficial effect on sleep. Without any suggestions about sleep at all, a client using hypnosis regularly often comments on how much better they are sleeping. Why is sleep important to weight loss? Your brain runs on blood sugar, and it gets fueled while you’re getting good, sound, quality sleep. When your sleep is poor, your brain is not fully fueled up, and sends signals to the body that it needs more blood sugar. This is interpreted as hunger, even when you don’t really need calories. Worse, it’s interpreted as hunger for foods that convert quickly to blood sugar–cookies, donuts, muffins, breads and potatoes. Sweet and starchy foods. The bitter end of this joke? Your brain doesn’t use that blood sugar when you’re awake the way it does when you’re sleeping, and combined with the fact that you’re tired with a suppressed metabolism from lack of sleep means that all those extra calories go right to fat. As a kicker, this style of eating makes your blood sugar go up and down like a roller coaster during the day, and that leads to further insomnia. A negative, self-reinforcing spiral that’s tough to get out of on your own.

Hearing about Cindy and hypnotherapy is a blessing. She is very professional and listens to your concerns and works hard with you to attain your goal. I have lost 13 lbs. in six weeks (and continuing!). I am exercising more and I find myself craving more fruits and vegetables instead of junk food. I was also able to quit drinking pop which is a big deal to me since I’ve been trying to do it for a long time! … I choose the healthy foods without thinking about it. I don’t feel deprived because for the first time in my life, I am actually being good to my body and I feel great!
My friends notice my new behavior … they (my friends) are getting used to it and actually compliment me on the way I look. The more compliments I get, the more motivated I become!” — Glenda T.*
I was initially skeptical when considering hypnotherapy. I come from a Catholic background and was uneasy about the source of hypnotic power. Upon my own research, I grew confident that hypnosis did not rely on any dark or dangerous powers. It appeared to be nothing more than seeking assistance to tap into my own inner thoughts, a therapist of sorts to help make sense of the constant scramble of ideas and emotions running through my mind. Not only were these perceptions confirmed upon completing my session, I also discovered much more about the hypnotic process and my own inner self. The experience was more than I could have imagined or hoped for.
My session began with an extensive discussion on how the brain operates and why hypnosis works. My hypnotherapist, Jody Kimmel, then evaluated my own specific situation pertaining to weight. I was amazed at how quickly he understood my concerns when he developed a list of my goals. They were perfectly in tune with what I was striving for. We discussed them carefully together and I felt extremely comfortable moving forward.
Jody did a few brief exercises to familiarize me with the hypnotic process, which made is easier for me to slip into a hypnotic state once we began. I was entirely present while under hypnosis, as opposed to my preconceived notions of a deep sleep I would have little recollection of. Jody was able to expose the root of my weight issues, which stemmed back to my childhood. Under hypnosis, I recalled early moments of childhood I’d never recalled before. In my case, these memories were based around food and the emotions I was conditioned to associate with eating. I experienced what’s best described as a battle between my adult self and my childhood self, bringing to the forefront the clash between who I want to be now as an adult and the innate tendencies of my sub-conscious mind. For the first time in my life, I was able to comprehend and communicate the source of my issues with food. Jody gave both my adult self and my childhood self a fair chance to communicate their side of the combating forces. This made my problem easier to understand and a solution plausible and accessible. My two selves were able to essentially reach an agreement for my overall well being. This was the first great leap towards my success over maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Hypnosis served as therapy for me. After many frustrating years of yo-yoing between success and failure, I made sense of the root of my problems, enabling me to make the changes necessary to reach my ultimate goal. I now understand how futile my surface attempts to control my weight have been because I was able to focus only on the conscious. The depth of my issues reside in the sub-conscious, which hypnosis helped me access. I have a newfound sense of confidence and certainty that I will choose to live a healthy lifestyle. Jody helped me overcome one of my greatest obstacles in life, my own inner self. ~~ Emily Urlacher, 6/15/12*
